A passport is an essential travel document for those traveling abroad for education, pilgrimage, tourism, business purposes, medical attendance and family visits. During the last Over the years, the growing economy and spreading globalization have increased the demand for passports and related services. To meet this increased demand, the Ministry of External Affairs launched the Passport Service Project (PSP) in May 2010.
Passport seva enables easy efficient and transparent processes for delivery of passport and related services. The project creates a nationwide network environment for government employees and integrates with the state police for physical verification of applicant credentials and with India Post for delivery of passports.
All Indian citizens departing or intending to depart from India are required to have a valid passport or travel document. Under the Passport Act 1967, the Government of India can issue various types of passports and travel documents such as ordinary passports, diplomatic passports, official passports, emergency certificates and certificates of identity for this purpose.
Tatkal Passport Seva is a scheme available to passport applicants who need their passport urgently. The final authority to issue passports under the Tatkal scheme rests with the Passport Office.
If police verification is not required then the passport under Tatkal scheme is dispatched within one working day excluding the date of submission of application. If police verification is required after issuance of passport, the passport is dispatched on the 3rd working day excluding the date of submission of the application – without waiting for the police verification report.
Citizens can apply for issue of new passport or re-issue of passport under Tatkal Scheme through e-form submission or online form submission or can apply in person.

dispatched on third working day excluding the date of submission
of application – without waiting for the Police Verification Report.
